audio / mixing / mastering engineer and such.

This website is STILL very much under construction. (9/26/2014)

I am an audio engineer and musician currently residing in Boston, Massachusetts. I have been working professionally as a a freelance mixing and mastering engineer for the past four years, touching upon albums of any and all genres, but have been recording music for roughly eight years. My skillset is quite versatile, though my assumed forte is oftentimes pre-mastering digital audio for vinyl. In addition to mixing and mastering, I also engineer and produce records when given the opportunity.

For specific examples of my mastering work, check out this link!
Additionally, you can find links to records I have worked on further down on this page.

The Long Version:

Since I first touched the tonearm of a record player, I was fascinated with the concept of recorded music. After pursuing sound engineering for the past eight years of my life in both my educational path and professional endeavors, I have begun to establish myself as a well-rounded audio engineer. Though I primarily work with hardcore, indie, alternative rock, and punk music, I am always very open to expand my repertoire by taking on any kind of project. I am a student at Berklee College of Music planning to graduate in May 2014 with a degree in Music Production and Engineering and a minor in Acoustics and Electronics.

I created this website as a professional means to promote myself and my work. As mentioned previously, most of my audio work is within the field of mastering and mixing. However, I am also an experienced recording engineer with proficiency working on large-format analog consoles, digital audio workstations, and analog tape, plus years of experience with live sound. My personal workspace is very limited in terms of tracking but if you are interested in working together on a record, there are various studios in the Boston area I have worked out of which we can book. I am also willing to travel to engineer your record if you have a specific studio you want to work at outside of Massachusetts.

I have been playing music in various bands for the past ten years. If there is one thing I have learned as both a musician and an engineer, it is that you must act creatively while still retaining your technical intuition. I strive to distance myself from run-of-the-mill engineering by thinking outside of the box and not always doing things according to the book in an effort to transcend the artist's vision for their project and expand it further beyond its initial limitation.

I have a personal goal for every record I engineer or work on in general to sound completely unique in comparison to other work I've done. I tend to keep a mix sounding natural as a representation of the band or what they sound like rather than copy a sonic quality in regards to other records within the respective genre of the artist. Though tat being said, I am also completely happy to assist the musician in achieving a sound similar to their favorite band if that is something they are looking to pursue.

You can check out before-and-after examples of some projects that I have mastered on this page. I have a SoundCloud account where I stream various tracks I have worked on, though I will be uploading a comprehensive list and more examples onto this site eventually. If you would like a copy of my resume and/or a list of projects I've worked on, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Somewhat unrelated, but I also do freelance graphic design work. I have a blog of sorts available for viewing at: www.zachxweeks.tumblr.com.

I don't really use flat or even hourly rates. I firmly believe in finding a price that is both fair for me and the client. Contact me with details about your record, budget, and what you're trying to do and we'll figure out pricing based upon the project as a whole from there.
