ZACH WEEKS: mastering / mixing / audio engineer and such.
Boston, MA 02134
This website is STILL very much under construction. (9/6/2014)
I am a mixing / mastering engineer with assumed forte in pre-mastering digital audio for vinyl. I also like to engineer and produce records when given the opportunity.
For examples of my mastering work, check out this page! I have listed other examples of recent work if you scroll down a bit.
THE LONG VERSION:
Since I first touched the tonearm of a record player, I was fascinated with the concept of recorded music. After pursuing sound engineering for the past seven years of my life in both my educational path and professional endeavors, I have begun to establish myself as a versatile audio engineer. Though I primarily work with hardcore, indie, alternative rock, and punk music and related genres, I am always very open to expand my repertoire by taking on any kind of project. I am a student at Berklee College of Music planning to graduate in May 2014 with a degree in Music Production and Engineering and a minor in Acoustics and Electronics.
I created this website as a professional means to promote myself and my work. As mentioned previously, most of my audio work is within the field of mastering and mixing. However, I am also an experienced recording engineer with proficiency working with large-format analog consoles, digital audio workstations, and analog tape, plus years of experience with live sound. My personal workspace is very limited in terms of tracking but if you are interested in working together on a record, there are various studios in the Boston area I have worked out of which we can book out. I am also willing to travel to engineer your record if you have a specific studio you want to work at outside of Massachusetts.
I have been playing music in various bands for the past ten years. If there is one thing I have learned from being both a musician and an engineer, it isthat you must act creatively while still retaining your technical intuition. I strive to distance myself from the run-of-the-mill audio engineer by thinking outside of the box and not always doing things by the book in an effort to transcend the artist's vision for their project and expand it even further.
I have a personal goal for every record I engineer or work on in general to sound completely unique in comparison to other work I've done. I tend to keep things sounding natural as a representation of the band or what they sound like rather than sounding too similar what other records within their respective genre. That being said, I am also completely able to help the musician achieve a sound similar to their favorite artist.
You can check out before-and-after examples of some projects that I have mastered on this page. I have a SoundCloud account where I stream various tracks I have worked on, though I will be uploading a comprehensive list and more examples onto this site eventually. If you would like a copy of my résumé or a list of projects I've worked on or more extensive examples, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Additionally, I do freelance graphic design work. I have a blog of sorts available for viewing at: www.zachxweeks.tumblr.com. I also ocassionally post audio files on said blog.
I don't really believe in flat or even hourly rates. Contact me with details about your record, budget, and what you're trying to do and we'll figure out pricing based on the project as a whole from there.
